Welcome to TechTrench A New Technical Communication Blog
Nov 16, 2008 - TechTrench
It amazes me how outdated I let my last website become, and how for so long there was that nagging feeling that I should build a new one.
I would be mowing the lawn or something and suddenly feel incomplete because I hadn’t looked at my own website for weeks. This website will be more fun to maintain I hope. My last site went up way before blogging became the rage, way before several things became cool that I hope to use in my new site—TechTrench.
There are some things I should point out as far as how to use TechTrench. The focus is a bit skewed between technical communication and website development. I’m trying to mirror the site to how my career has gone in its fluctuations among technical writing, communications, and web development. I would say primarily I’m a website developer and project manager, but I’m a developer in the name of content-rich communication websites for large and federated organizations.
You will see here posts related to website development, technical writing, content management, and information architecture. Outside of TechTrench’s blog are pages detailing my consulting services in these areas as well. If you would like to contact me about my services, use my site’s contact form. I also provide my contact information on my about page.
I will be writing quite a bit of material related to Xaraya. The platform is one of the systems I have found to be the most flexible for my needs, going in and out of communications and web development tasks of varying complexitites over the years. I use Xaraya to manage TechTrench.
I donate a portion of my blog to software reviews, focusing on the tools technical communicators use on a daily basis. I’ll be adding commercial as well as open source tools. Reviewing them is a matter of using the form I provide. I use a Xaraya module called Textile. You are welcome to use Textile’s syntax to post reviews and comments throughout the blog. The textile module is updated to use the latest version 2.0 found at thresholdstate.com. I’ll be zipping up the textile module for downloading. Anyone is welcome to use it. I find Textile superior for my needs to using Xaraya’s HTML or BBcode modules to manage markup.
If you write a software review, you will receive a link back to your website without a "nofollow" directive set in the link.
Happy blogging!
